This country getaway in NSW, in the New England Tablelands, is a truly unique experience.
The hut is designed to take in the stunning 360 degree views of the Australian bush, and is surrounded by a 100 year old orchard of nectarines, cherries, plums and pears, where the old Hernani school used to be.
It’s peaceful and totally private and you are only left with yourself and the beautiful landscape of bush and pasture surrounding you. The incredible night skies, breathtaking colours of the sunrises and sunsets, the sounds of the native birds and Australian wildlife such as kangaroos and wombats are plentiful. As are rabbit, foxes and local cattle.
Our cleverly restored eco-hut, is well-insulated, sleeping up to nine people in a comfortable design that provides all that you need for a great country retreat.
There is little privacy in this hut due to its open plan style, however, if you’re sharing this experience with close friends and family you’ll have a wonderful time together. There is also plenty of room for extra campers and camper trailers.
This hut has been crafted from recycled timber and fittings with off-grid solar power, slow-combustion heating and indoor-outdoor living options to take advantage of the stunning daytime vistas and sparkling night skies.
Adventurers, bushwalkers and nature lovers will delight in the easy access to fishing spots, horse riding trails, waterfalls, swimming holes, lookouts and walking tracks in all directions.
This country escape is situated right on the Australian National Trail allowing you access to the longest uninterrupted walking and riding trail in the southern hemisphere. The hut is a short 10 minute drive to Ebor town for basic supplies and Ice but far enough away to retreat and replenish in a unique, breathtaking setting.

Booking Policy
House Rules
Because of its wilderness setting and off-grid status, some resources are limited and we ask you to give these your special attention.
We have a detailed guest book available at the Hut that contains all key information about your stay at the property. Please read through this carefully to ensure a safe and smooth stay.
Water is precious and we rely solely on rain for our supply. So please be mindful of your usage whilst staying there, by having no showers or short showers and not leaving taps running unnecessarily – if the landscape on your way to the property is looking dry and brown it means it hasn’t rained for a while and water is scarce. We truck water in during dry periods at significant cost and ask that guests are respectful and practical about it’s consumption.
Similarly, our lighting is solar-powered please only turn them on in the room you are using and do not leave them on unnecessarily. This is not the city and your resources are limited.
Due to its remote location, guests must take their rubbish with them, when they leave. There is a public tip less then 10 min away where guests can drop off their rubbish.
We provide you with a clear set of simple departure instructions in the hut information folder, so you can shut off the solar, gas and water safely. It is a condition of every booking that guests agree to follow a few simple steps to secure the hut and ensure our expensive solar and water systems are well looked after.
Dogs and domestic pets are not permitted at the hut, as we have to juggle the needs of all our guests and we are unable to manage dog hair without a vacuum cleaner. Besides, this is cattle country and dogs could also be tempted to round up the cows!
However, horses are most welcome at Hernani. The hut is situated right on the National Trail, the longest uninterrupted hiking and riding trail in Southern hemisphere. If you plan to bring your horses to ride the trail, we suggest you get the National Trail book with all the necessary trail information.
